The brief

My Executor Box came to us with a problem most families never plan for: where the documents that matter end up when someone dies. They needed a secure, structured way for users to capture, organise, and hand off estate-planning information to nominated executors.

What we did

My Executor Box addresses a problem most families never plan for: where the documents that matter end up when someone dies. Wills, powers of attorney, account details, insurance policies, and dozens of smaller artefacts that hold an estate together are usually scattered across paper, email, and people's heads. Founder Alan wanted to give individuals a secure place to pull all of it together, and a clear way to hand it to the executors who would actually need it.

My Executor Box, secure planning visual

We worked alongside founder Alan from prototype through to a market-ready platform, shaping the product around two priorities: making estate-planning information easy to organise, and keeping sensitive data protected throughout. The engagement started with iterative design work to clarify the user journeys, functional requirements and data security model. Across six agile sprints, we built a bespoke web application with two-factor authentication at sign-up, secure vault storage and granular controls over which executor can access what information, and when. The platform gives users a structured way to record assets, liabilities, wills, powers of attorney, insurance policies and other important documents, while creating a clearer handover process for the people responsible for administering an estate.

  • Secure user vault for assets, liabilities, wills, and powers of attorney
  • Two-factor authentication built in from the first sign-up
  • Granular executor access control: who sees what, and at what point in time
  • A platform designed to expand into legal and financial advisor partnerships

How we approached it

The defining tension was security versus accessibility. Users had to be confident that deeply personal financial information was protected. They also had to be confident enough in the experience to actually populate the vault, which is where comparable products often fail. We designed the security model upfront and kept it visible to the user. The layers protecting their data needed to signal trust rather than get in the way.

Transforming the experience

Once live, My Executor Box turned a fragmented analogue process into a coherent digital one. Individuals sign in to a secure platform, add their assets, liabilities, wills, powers of attorney, and other documentation, and decide precisely who sees what and when. For executors, what used to be a hunt across drawers, email accounts, and unfamiliar institutions becomes a single, structured handover.
